Mara is a wood burning artist living in Taos, New Mexico. Mara is the founder of the Wood Burn Society which is a growing community of wood burning artists. She is also a member of the Professional Artist Association.
Burnt Wood As An Art Medium
Burnt wood became a popular medium in the 1880's as thousands of Victorian ladies burned fanciful designs on boxes, furniture, and wall plaques. Mara Skye Wolf follows in their foot steps and is using a modern wood burning pen to create art. A wood burning pen heats the wood which changes it color and incises the design. The process requires patience and attention to detail because each stroke is permeant and irreversible so mistakes cannot be hidden.
